When one is living in their “true self” this is the equivalent to self-mastery. Explaining it from an alchemical standpoint. Magnum Opus (Alchemy), I will only list 7 of the 12 or even 14 stages as to the mental and spirit relation in a simple manner.
1) Calcination (Purification by fire)
The beginning stages of the natural breaking down process of “inner selves” the egos, the hardness that of stubbornness, the attachment of material possessions and the material world, the 3D experience.
Psalms 12:6 “The words of the LORD are pure words; As silver tried in a furnace on the earth, refined seven times.”
2) Dissolution ( Purification by water)
The further break down of the identification with ones false sense of self, the layers of the “inner selves” The “subpressed conscious mind“, the unrealized and unempowered aspects of one’s self. Strongly associated with the moon and water, the flow of emotion(s) “Innergy” energy and “outergy“.
Hebrew 10:22 “Draw near to God with a sincere heart and with the full assurance that faith brings, having our hearts sprinkled to cleanse us from a “subpressed” conscience and having our bodies washed with pure water.”
3) Separation (Purification by Air)
Isolating ones thoughts and emotions more absolute from other thoughts and emotions.
This process requires one to re-examine and reclaim the previously rejected/ hidden matter, arriving to the authentic feelings. Very similar to “shadow work“. The discovery of ones true essence within the realms of physicality.
Leviticus 15:31 “Thus you shall keep the sons of Israel (“Divine Ones“) separated from their uncleanness (Lower vibration), so that they will not die in their uncleanness by their defiling My tabernacle (“core being“) that is among them.”
4) Conjunction (Purification by Earth)
The reformation of the saved matter (thoughts, feelings, ect) from separation to form something new. Also referred to as the “Lesser Stone”
Experiencing this stage of spiritual/mental Alchemy one allows the hidden “subpressed” thoughts, feelings, etc to simmer to the surface of the conscious mind.
Romans 12:2 “Do not conform to the pattern of the “3D circumstance“, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind.”
5) Fermentation (Opening to Divine Work)
This stage is the introduction of the process of rebirth. Think of fermented grapes that die to the former self that are reborn into wine.
The previous stages were the decomposing of the old in a two step process. One called Putrefaction and the other Spiritziation. This and the latter stages ushers in the more refined self.
Matthew 9:17 “Neither do people pour new wine into old wineskins. If they do, the skins will burst; the wine will run out and the wineskins will be ruined. No, they pour new wine into new wineskins, and both are preserved.“
6) Distillation (Discovering the Subjective Truth)
Moving from a nice simmer to a slow boil, the distillation process is the start of integrating the mental/spiritual realizations into one’s life permanently.
This would be someone removing lower vibrational habits with ones of a higher vibration. Such as quitting smoking and replacing that habit with meditation.
With the repeated practice of continual death to the old and the rebirth one will overcome any obstacle(s) leading to true transformation.
1 Timothy 4:15-16 “Meditate upon these things; give yourself completely to them; that thy profiting may appear to all.Watch your life and doctrine closely. Persevere in them, because if you do, you will save both yourself and your hearers.”
7) Coagulation (Golden Light Body)
The unification, the merging after the death of the masculine (logic, ego) and the feminine (human understanding of Materia Prima: the Spirit) to become a hermaphrodite. One that is fully human and fully spirit, like the incarnate Christ. This is an individual that is fully balanced.
“As above so be-low, as within so without.“
In this stage one realizes that the physical “3D circumstance” is not separate from the mind (less dense) or spiritual reality(even lesser density); it is a mirror of it.
Ephesians 4:23-24 “To be made new in the attitude of your minds; and to put on the new self, created to be like God in true righteousness and holiness.”
So how many licks does it take to get to the center?
To keep it simple let’s just say 7 for now.
The Alchemist sets out on a quest to master “The Great Work“. To reflect the inner outwardly. To achieve mastery over both mind and matter.
