A WOLF IN SHEEPS CLOTHING
A popular phrase that signifies a person or even a thing that seems to be pure and has good intentions but really they have I’ll plans or intentions. This can be somewhat compared to The Boy Who Cried Wolf, false intentions that backfired.
LITTLE RED RIDING HOOD AND THE BIG BAD WOLF SYMBOLISM
One of the most popular children’s bedtime stories, however, how child friendly is this story? The innocent young girl disobeys her mother and takes “the forbidden” path and runs into the “big bad wolf”.
Knowing her plans, the wolf with all his cunning ways “eats” Little Red Ridinghood. Red is the color for desire and sexual energy, she wore a red hood and she carried a basket of red apples. Apples are known to be a forbidden fruit symbol in art and well-known stories, the depictions of Eve and the forbidden tree.
Some interpretations of Little Red Ridinghood lean towards the underlying sexual attraction between the young “innocent” girl that’s of age and the more experienced wolf. The “forbidden path” she took in defiance of her mother and in the end was taken advantage of or either gave in to the temptation.
Other interpretations are the story symbolizes seasons changing, another says it’s the setting of the sun that’s then cut out of the night (wolf) to begin a new day. And it can even represent the young maiden starting her cycle.
I’ll give one more example after first describing what the Wolf symbolizes in Alchemy.
THE WOLF SYMBOLISM AND ALCHEMY
Alchemically the Moon epitomizes the element of silver which represents the
SIDE NOTE: This may be the reason why in fictional stories Silver is the only way to kill a Werewolf.
The wolf sometimes symbolizes metal antimony, which represents man’s free spirit or animal nature.
This is the way I interpret the story of the Redhood and the Wolf. A red top in alchemy is the Kundalini, Sexual energy, the Philosophers Stone.
Little RED was awakening, on a quest to freedom. She took the “forbidden path” as all Alchemists do when on the search for the meaning of life and purpose.
She found the Wolf on this path which represents the “free spirit” of man. The metal for the Wolf is Silver which is the second to the last stage in alchemy before Gold.
After the Union with the wolf, they merged the Alchemical Marriage, becoming a Werewolf in…a sense.
THE WOLF IN TAROT
THE TWO PILLARS & THE BEASTS
The two pillars in the distance amongst the raging waves are both the conscious and subconscious, although this card solely represents the subconscious mind.
The primary focus besides the Moon are the two beasts below howling at the moon. While both are closely related genetically they differ, the dog being domesticated (man) while the wolf runs wild and free (nature).
This speaks to the inner workings of every individual. The awakening man, intuition, the right pillar
